OptoSci Ltd, was founded in 1994 as a spin-off company from the University of Strathclyde with the key objective of incubating, developing & commercially exploiting selected innovative photonics technology arising from internal and academic research. OptoSci’s business strategy has proved very successful with over a decade of profitable growth and has led to the Company becoming a leading producer of innovative optoelectronic systems, components and instrumentation for the international education, research, industrial and environmental markets. Current products and activities include:
- Photonics Educator Kits – comprehensive fully self-contained laboratory based educational kits for universities, colleges, education & training centres teaching: geometrical & physical optics, optical waveguiding, fiber optics, optical fibre components, fibre optic communications, BER, WDM systems, Bragg gratings, fibre amplifiers, lasers, OTDR, optical networks, fiber sensors, biophotonics, nanophotonics, etc.
- Photonics Instruments – specialist design and manufacture of a range of high specification standard, custom & OEM photonics instrumentation for test, measurement, production and research applications (i.e. PC controlled laser & TEC drivers, low noise photoreceivers, TDLS benchtop gas test & monitoring systems, etc.).
- OptoSniff® – novel gas sensing system which continuously and reliably measures methane / natural gas concentrations from hundreds of sensing points over long distance, intrinsically safe, optical fibre links. It uses innovative laser and fibre optic technology for rugged, multipoint CH4 leak detection & monitoring in service tunnels, utility ducts, LNG storage, landfill & brownfield sites, mines, etc.
- Optoelectronic Research – ongoing internal and collaborative applied research programmes to develop innovative optical sensing and control systems for other industrial monitoring, measurement, alarm and control applications.
